Self Help Box
A Self Help box is something that allows you to distract yourself from how you are feeling; a feeling that wants you to scream, cry, any strong emotion that makes you want to hurt yourself or makes you feel uncomfortable.
A box can be anything, any size, any shape, it can be big, it can be small.
What helps you to distract? This is an important question because what helps you to distract may not help another.
Have a good think of things that mean a lot to you, these could be:
- A photo of you and a loved one
- A toy or teddy of some sorts
- A letter or picture that brings back good memories
- A mp3 player with happy songs on it or a piece of paper stating what these are
- Something that smells nice
Also put something in there that distracts you from your thoughts and feelings such as:
- Rubber bands
- A chocolate bar or some of your favourite sweets
- A red felt tip pen or a red gel pen
- A cigarette (if you smoke)
- Bubble wrap
- Stress ball
