Training

We believe that the best way for us to combat self-harm is through educating and supporting staff and volunteers who work with young people on a regular basis. Since 50% of self-harmers do not continue to self-harm following their first incident, catching self-harm early can be life changing. Battle Scars are looking to visit primary and secondary schools to provide information to teachers on the following topics:

– Ask a self-harmer (the opportunity to ask a self-harmer the questions you thought you would never get a chance to)

– Understanding self-harm

– Why people choose self-harm

– How people self-harm

– Recognising the early warning signs of self-harm

– How to build towards a disclosure

– How to handle a disclosure

– Facilitation and mediation techniques

– Coping mechanisms

– Referrals
